I believe that the secret to our longevity as a human race lies in community and sustainability - harnessing and reviving cultural wisdoms and traditions.
This little gem is one of my favorites due to the subject matter, you really must watch how they work! It warms my heart to see these women living true to their roots. The women of the Djola tribe took me under their wing as their little lu-lu (white) daughter, and were excited to invite me to their three day palm oil making ceremony.
Body Paint
Ti-tree, Northern Territory
Powerful women carrying forward strong traditions. Skin name, body paint, culture and ceremony. I filmed this piece in Ti-tree (between Alice Springs and Tenant Creek) as part of Mobfest, Tamani. I passed much time sitting with the women, just sitting and listening and slowly they would engage me more and more until they welcomed be to be part of this ceremony and capture it on camera. Respect to the traditional guardians of the land.
Vivo en Santo Domingo (I live in Santo Domingo)
Columbia

Produced in a workshop environment with a group of children from the shanty town of 'Santo Domingo', this short documentary throws the camera into the hands of Christophe and Davidson to give a personal insight into what life is like for them before and after the reformation of their perilous Colombian neighbourhood, previously riddled with street war. The courage the kids display in the face of fear and crime is an inspiration to behold.
Tu Casa, Mi Casa (Your House is My House)
Barcelona, Spain

The authorities and the people clash as their homes and culture are threatened, their families forcibly evicted and their headquarters destroyed.
'Milles de Viviendas' was an active squat on Barcelona beach. A vibrant collective of individuals running the space as a social centre, offering workshops, Pirate University, community projects and Indymedia Barcelona.
In 2007, the Local Government of Barcelona implemented a new development plan for the city. The plan involved the eradication of the houses of around 1000 families and many sites of social and cultural importance including 'Milles de Viviendas'. The occupants joined forces with Arquitectos Sin Fronteras to devise an alternative plan for the city.
